White supremacy is a racist ideology based on the belief that white people are superior to other racial groups and, therefore, should have economical, social, and political dominance.  Groups of this nature started to develop in the United States prior to the Civil War.  There are various types of white supremacy groups, and different types of white supremacy have different definitions of “white.”  Not all groups agree on whom is the enemy; however, the majority of white supremacists consider Jews to the greatest threat to their mission.   

Types of Aryan Groups:
      - Neo-Nazi:  Neo-Nazi groups support post-World War II ideologies, political movements, and social

        movements seeking to restore Nazism.  These groups idolize Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany,

        while hating Jews, non-whites, homosexuals, and often Christians.  “The Jew” is perceived as the

        cardinal enemy since social problems can be traced to a Jewish conspiracy that supposedly controls

        governments, financial institutions, and the media.  While some neo-Nazi groups emphasize simple

        hatred, others are more focused on the revolutionary creation of a fascist political state. 
      - Neo-Confederate:  Neo-Confederate groups celebrate traditional Southern culture and the Civil War’s

        conflict between the Union and the Confederacy.  In addition to this, these groups embrace racist

        attitudes towards blacks and, in some instances, white separatism, which is a political movement

        that strives to create a homeland for white people.      
      - Christian Identity:  Christian Identity asserts that whites, not Jews, are the true Israelites favored by

        God in the Bible.  Most often, this theology depicts Jews as biologically descended from Satan, while

        non-whites are seen as soulless “mud people” created with the Biblical beasts.  Its roots can be

        traced to 19th century English trend called British Israelism.  Originally, British Israelism was friendly

        to Jews and asserted that European whites were descended from the ten “lost tribes” of Israel and

        were thus related to Jews who were descended from the other two Hebrew tribes mentioned in the

        Bible.  However, it was adopted and transformed in the 20th century into a rapidly anti-Semitic belief

        by a number of racist preachers in the United States.  For decades, Christian Identity has been one of

        the most important ideologies for the white supremacist movement.  In its most extreme form, it

        asserts that Christ will not return to Earth until the globe is swept clean of Jews and other Satanic

        influences.

      - Creativity Movement:  The Creativity Movement supports that concept of the Racial Holy War

        (RAHOWA) for survival of the white race.   RAHOWA is inevitable and is the only solution for

        sustaining the white race against non-white people.  Sustaining the white-race is described

        as the supreme act of creation.

Recruitment:  For hate groups, inmates represent a valuable source of potential recruits.  While incarcerated, inmates who are weak or have no external support system struggle to survive.  As a result, extremist groups from all over the political spectrum exert an influence within the prison system and are able to recruit inmates looking for protection and assistance while in prison and once released from prison.
