Idaho independent gangs are comprised of all races, however some are formed along racial lines or formed by family groups.  These group do business with anyone but remain independent from the major alliances, such as Aryans, Sureños, Norteños, Crips, Bloods, Folk Nation, and People Nation.  Starting off as small unorganized groups, independent gangs either survive or disband.  If they survive, they tend to become very violent in order to get respect from the larger gangs. The main function of independent gangs is to serve as a liaison between the major alliances.  In addition, independent gangs are well know for carrying out contact hits for other groups, and in prison, they are heavily involved in extortion and are specialists in compromising staff.
